(above) Lou Kogut (2nd from right) of Perth Amboy, NJ, with some boot camp buddies at Parris Island. He was drafted in the Marine Corps on 20 August 1943 and served as a quartermaster with the 5th Service Battalion, 5th MarDiv. Lou took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima and the occupation of Japan. He was one of the first Americans to enter Nagasaki during the occupation. In September 1945, Lou was assigned to the 2nd MarDiv, where he served until his discharge in April 1946.

Lou returned to New Jersey after the war and remained in the Marine Corps reserve. He got married in 1949 and was recalled to active service during the Korean War. He passed away in 1968.
